PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — An 18-year-old man accused of attacking two women will make his first court appearance Wednesday.

Alex Francisco was arrested late Tuesday in connection with an Aug. 4 sexual assault and an Aug. 8 robbery in North Portland’s Overlook neighborhood.

The 54-year-old woman told police she was walking her dogs Aug. 4 near the grounds of the Kaiser Permanente offices when a suspect approached her and talked with her briefly before pulling her into the bushes and raping her.

A woman on Aug. 8 told police she was attacked and robbed of her iPhone near the Failing Street Pedestrian Bridge over I-5.

The officers tracked the stolen cellphone to the general area of a residence in the 4700 block of North Kerby Avenue and spoke to several people at the home. Detectives served search warrants at residences in the 4600 block of North Commercial in connection with the two investigations.

Francisco, booked into Multnomah County Jail just before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, faces counts of strangulation and rape among other charges.

Police said they have added more detectives to the bureau’s Sex Crimes Unit in wake of recent stranger-on-stranger sexual assaults.
