INDIANAPOLIS (KOIN 6) — Greg Oden, the former Portland Trail Blazer known for tremendous highs and lows during his thus-far brief basketball career, appeared before a judge Wednesday following claims he punched his ex-girlfriend in the face.
Oden was arrested last week at his mother’s Indianapolis home. According to a police report, officers were called to the house around 3:30 a.m. and discovered Oden’s ex-girlfriend on a sofa with a bloodied, swollen face.
Oden confessed to hitting the woman, saying “things got out of control.”
Wednesday, a Marion County judge set an Oct. 22 trial date for Oden, who, while being monitored by GPS, will remain free on bond and can leave the state.
Oden, 26, was selected as the top pick in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Blazers. Currently a free agent, the 7-foot center was a part of last year’s championship Miami Heat squad.
