LOS ANGELES, Calif. (KOIN 6) — The Los Angeles Clippers have a new owner, and it’s billionaire former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.

The NBA announced the $2 billion sale Tuesday morning.

A California court order confirmed Shelly Sterling’s authority to sell the team on behalf of the Sterling Family Trust, the LA Clippers said in a statement.

The sale had been previously approved by the NBA Board of Governors. Minutes later, the deal closed.

“I am humbled and honored to be the new owner of the Los Angeles Clippers,” Ballmer said.

He applauded Clippers fans, for remaining loyal to the team “through some extraordinary times.”

“I will be hard core in giving the team, our great coach, staff and players the support they need to do their best work on the court,” he said.

Steve Ballmer, of Seattle, ranks 32nd on Forbes 400, with an estimated wealth of $20.7 billion.

The NBA seized the Clippers from Sterling and forced the sale of the team following profoundly racist comments he made during a phone conversation with a female companion in May.

Ballmer, and the Clippers will host a public Clippers Fan Festival Monday, Aug. 18 in Los Angeles.
