Housekeepers entered the room and found 13-year-old Alana with cuts to her throat and her 2-year-old sister dead, lying next to each other in bed.

The teen told medics on the way to the hospital that her mother drowned the child.

Documents also showed Alana said she wanted to cut herself and that her mother helped her because her parents were separated and her father was seeking custody of both children.

“They did not want to live with their father, they just wanted to get out of it,” documents said.

Jessica Smith, the documents state, wrote a 15-page letter about the her husband and their “horrible marriage.” She sent it to his work colleagues the day before the children were found in the hotel room.

Jessica Smith’s next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.
