VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN 6) — A police pursuit began in Vancouver Sunday after a driver was seen throwing a child by an arm into a minivan and driving away.

Police dispatch received a call from a concerned citizen around 5:45 p.m. near NE 18th and Andresen Road. Officers quickly located the van on I-5 and SR-500 and tried to pull over the vehicle, but the driver refused to yield.

Shortly after the chase began, police units were able to successfully block the van at the freeway’s Alberta Street exit. Vancouver police did not indicate the speed reached during the chase.

The suspect, a 38-year-old Portland man whom the Vancouver Police Department has not identified, was arrested for resisting arrest, reckless endangerment and eluding a police vehicle.

All occupants in the van, including two small children, are related to the driver, according to VPD. The incident began, police said, with a domestic dispute between the man and his wife.
