Matthew Tufts of Salem was at the east end of the Lakeside Village Mobile Home Park in the 3200 block of Turner Road when he got into the water around 9 p.m. Sunday, officials said.

A ground and water search was started by Salem police and fire units, and a dive team from the Newberg Fire Department was called. However, the fact it was night and the hazardous current made a search unsafe at that time.

Shortly after 9:30 a.m. Monday, the teen’s body was found about 100 feet downstream from where he entered. He was 16.
