Police safely detain suicidal subject

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Police responded to a call around 5 a.m. Monday concerning shots fired in Portland’s Hazelwood Neighborhood, with a resident telling dispatch a man was shooting a rifle outside a home.

Police responded to the incident and encountered a 32-year-old suicidal man holding a rifle. Not long after making contact with him and securing the area near SE Stark and 106th Street, police say he dropped the weapon.

Officers were able to bring the man into custody soon thereafter and take him to a Portland hospital for treatment. While police did find evidence of gunfire, no one was injured.
