PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — It may come as no surprise to fans of Powell’s Books, but the Portland staple has been dubbed one of the “world’s coolest bookstores” in a CNN list released this week.
Situated squarely inside perhaps Portland’s pinnacle of hipness, Powell’s flagship building takes up a full block in the Pearl District. Built in 1971, Powell’s has grown into the largest used and new bookstore on the globe.
“Visitors should set aside a good two to three days to get lost in this iconic Portland landmark,” the article reads. ” … The staff’s passion for reading shines through on the store’s treasure of a website, which features an entertaining book blog in addition to a comprehensive and ambitious online store.”
Only four other bookstores in the US made the list: The Last Bookstore in Los Angeles, John K. King Used & Rare Books in Detroit, Parnassus Books in Nashville and New York City’s Strand.
