VANCOUVER, Wash. (KOIN 6) — They’re out of weed.
Just two weeks after the first recreational marijuana stores opened in the state of Washington, many of them are out of pot, including Main Street Marijuana in Vancouver.
A steady stream of customers walked up to the door, saw the sign — “Sorry. Out of weed” — and left empty-handed, including one person who traveled from Idaho specifically for this experience.
One of the other issues is pricing. Though about 2500 applicants applied to become licensed growers, only about 100 gained approval. Since it takes more than two months to grow the plant, some growers are charging $6,000 per pound.
That makes the legal price of $25 per gram far more expensive than it is illegally.
“The price gouging is ridiculous,” one person told KOIN 6 News.
Main Street Marijuana expects to re-open next Monday, while New Vansterdam hopes to open on Friday.
