SEASIDE, Ore. A 53-year-old man drowned in the Pacific Ocean Tuesday evening.

Gerry Brett of Calgary, Canada was on vacation with his family at the time, and the call marked the second ocean water rescue in the span of two minutes that day.

Seaside Fire & Rescue responded to the 5:25 p.m. call for Brett, reporting a man who had gone under water off the Seaside beach near 3rd Avenue.

After arriving on the scene, a lifeguard and bystanders spotted the him again, dragged 3 blocks south of where he had gone under by ocean currents.

Brett was brought to the waterline by 5:35 pm, as crews initiated CPR. He was transported to Providence Seaside Hospital, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
