PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — An inspection of the lift span deck closed the Morrison Bridge until about 5 p.m. on Sunday.

The inspection focused on the problems related to the deck panels that were installed in 2011 and 2012.

The on- and off-ramps from the bridge to I-5 and I-84 were closed, though the sidewalks stayed open for pedestrians and bicyclists.

Earlier in July, Multnomah County said they’ve decided to replace the lift span deck on the Morrison Bridge.

Mike Pullen with the Multnomah County Communications Office said the decision to replace the decking came after an investigation determined that the deck installed in 2011-2012 was defective and could not be effectively repaired.

The county is now considering two options for the new surface: an open steel grating or a solid deck made of aluminum.
