Surveyor falls 20 feet into creek near Gales Creek

Victim was with Washington County surveying a private timber property when he fell

GALES CREEK, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A surveyor who fell 20 feet into a creek near Gales Creek Campground on Thursday suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

According the Forest Grove Fire Department (FGFD), the man, who was with Washington County surveying a private timber property, fell near milepost 36 on Wilson River Highway on private property.

The HH-60J Jayhawk from Coast Guard Air Station Astoria arrived shortly after firefighters called for assistance around 2:30 p.m. and hoisted the 57-year-old man out of the creek.

The surveyor was taken to Providence St. Vincents Hospital in Portland for treatment of his injuries of what appeared to be possible broken ribs.

No additional information, including the man’s name, was released.
