PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A natural gas leak in North Portland closed down access to streets around North Columbia Boulevard and Midway Monday morning, though no one was hurt and the area was cleared in less than an hour.
Portland Fire & Rescue personnel said firefighters were asked to assist a NW Natural crew around 9:45 a.m. The gas, which apparently was leaking from underneath the street, according to PF&R, was shut off by 10:15 a.m.
Gas was detected in the backyard of at least one home, leading to evacuations.
Crews checked the homes and surrounding structures for gas, giving the all-clear order shortly before 11 a.m.
NW Natural officials say a construction crew inadvertently struck an underground line during a dig.
