A group of tree huggers tried to break the world record Portland already holds for most people hugging a tree simultaneously.

Carter, from St. Louis, said, “This is the most appropriate part of my vacation, to come to Portland and hug a tree. To give homage to your beautiful area, but also the fun of hugging a tree.”

Portland set the record in 2013 with 1000 tree-huggers. Other cities tried to break the record, but none has been certified.

Saturday’s attempt was to get so many people to take part that a new record would be set and  out of reach of other cities.

It’s unknown at this time how many people hugged a tree Saturday.
