PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — It will soon be harder to track down the details of new disciplinary cases against dentists.
The Oregon Board of Dentistry voted recently to remove the names of dentists it has disciplined from the board’s official newsletter.
Disciplinary information on an individual dentist can still be found online. But the Oregonian reports that determining who has been recently disciplined will now take significantly more effort. It requires entering license numbers from the newsletter into the board’s online search function.
Backers of the change say disclosing the names of disciplined dentists is spiteful and provides fodder for gossip.
Critics say transparency is important for the public.
