Andrew Barns was headed north and traveling slightly above the speed limit, Washington County deputies told KOIN 6 News, when the driver of a car pulled out in front and hit him.

Barns, of the Bethany area, was wearing a novelty helmet, not an approved helmet. He died at the scene.

The medical examiner will determine if the helmet contributed to the fatal injuries.

No citations were issued at this time to the 36-year-old driver. The investigation continues.
