PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — After multiple gang shootings the past few weeks, the Portland police are stepping up their gang patrols this weekend.

“Operation Cool Down” is part of the effort that involves community outreach.

The community-driven Rally to Silence the Violence at McCoy Park was put on by Youth Empowerment Solutions, a non-profit that aims to make kids a positive part of their community.

Many are concerned about the increase of violence, where in the last two months there have been two gang-related killings.

A spokesperson told KOIN 6 News they wanted to let people know they care and are role models for kids.
