HILLSBORO, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A 22-year-old man was arrested around midnight Friday night, about 11 hours after Hillsboro police responded to a call about a burglar inside an apartment complex.
Kevin Toler was arrested by Washington County deputies at a home in Cornelius on charges of burglary and theft of a firearm earlier in the day.
The incident began early Friday afternoon at 2905 SW Cornelius Pass Road, Hillsboro police said. One of the residents heard a noise in the attic and called police.
When the police arrived, they noticed someone punched through the ceiling and they believe someone was kicking through walls to get to other units in the building.
The burglar got up into the crawl space, and police believe he stole guns from one of the units.
The first unit broken into was vacant, police said.
A standoff police called “fluid” and “tense” continued until about 8:30 p.m. when a SWAT unit cleared the building and determined the suspect was not inside, and likely left before police were able to contain the building.
The investigation continues.
