SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Oregon State Police say they’ve arrested the owner of Whoops! Towing as he attempted to haul off an undercover vehicle.

The police said Thursday they’ve been looking into allegations of illegal towing activity in Salem and other parts of Marion County, and the car was parked Tuesday as part of the investigation.

The police said they booked 35-year-old Michael Alan Selmer of Falls City on charges of failure to register as a sex offender and violating the terms of his parole.

The towing investigation has been given to the district attorney’s office in Marion County for review.

The police said they’d gotten reports of a towing business operating without the required certificate, posting impoundment warning signs of its own in business parking lots and employing a spotter to generate tows.
