FOREST GROVE, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A one acre brush fire burning off of Wilson River Highway near NW Parsons Road was under control Thursday evening, according to Forest Grove Fire & Rescue.

As of 8 p.m., the fire was not threatening any homes, but crews said they did manage to stop the flames before reaching a large standing wheat field.

Fire investigators believe the fire was a result of an old burn pile that still retained heat and took off in some blackberry bushes.

Investigators said the cause of the fire is a reminder that most fires in the area are almost always caused by people and advised anyone who has burned this season to wet down any old burn piles.
