RAINIER, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A 16-year-old driver died and her passenger injured in a rollover accident on Hwy 30 in the early hours of Sunday, the Oregon State Police said.
The single-car crash was near milepost 53, about six miles west of Rainier, officials said.
Investigators said in a release the 1993 Subaru driven by Seeaira D. Hicks went off the eastbound shoulder, rolled several times and ended on its top shortly before 1 a.m.
Both teens were using safety restraints and the airbags deployed, officials said. Hicks died at the scene. Her passenger, Scott Hamlin, suffered a minor injury and was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Early indications are that no alcohol or drugs were involved, but fatigue may have been a factor.
KOIN 6 News will update this later in the day.
