PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 29-year-old woman is accused of causing serious burns to her boyfriend after she poured hot grease over his body while he was sleeping, police confirmed.
Shiree Franklin was booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center on one count of first-degree assault constituting domestic violence.
Sgt. Pete Simpson, a police spokesperson, said North Precinct officers responded to a call for help in the 7000-block of Northeast 27th Avenue around 2:45 a.m. Friday after receiving a report of a woman who had just poured hot grease all over her boyfriend while he was sleeping.
The victim, a 54-year-old man, suffered significant burns to his face, chest and hands, Simpson said.
Portland Fire & Rescue responded to the scene, and the man was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Franklin, officials said, was found sitting outside the residence in her nightgown when officers arrived.
Officers transported Franklin to police headquarters in downtown where detectives with the Family Services Division interviewed her.
Simpson said detectives were unable to determine what motivated Franklin to pour hot grease onto her boyfriend.
She is scheduled to be arraigned Monday afternoon.
Franklin’s bail is set at $250,000.
