DORENA, Ore. (KOIN 6) — The teen who died trying to save his little brother from drowning at Wildwood Falls on Tuesday has been identified.

Authorities said 16-year-old Scott Alexander Smith from Aloha drowned trying to save his little brother.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office said Smith was walking near the falls with his younger brother when the younger boy slipped and began sliding down the rocks into the water.

According to witnesses, Smith went into the water in an effort to save his younger brother, and they both ended up going down a narrow chute of water.

The younger brother emerged from the water, but Smith never resurfaced.

Lane County Search and Rescue Divers searched the area and later recovered his body.

Wildwood Falls is located on the Row River near Cottage Grove, Ore. The top of the rock wall stands approximately 25 to 30 feet above the base of the falls.
