LONGVIEW, Wash. (KOIN 6) — Fire agencies in Cowlitz County are monitoring a fire burning on Cottonwood Island Wednesday afternoon.

Cowlitz County Emergency Management said since no people or structures are in danger, responding agencies will monitor the flames overnight and start to extinguish it on Thursday morning.

Clark County Sheriff’s Office’s Marine Patrol Unit was part of the responding crews.

Authorities advised that citizens should refrain from calling 911 since crews are already aware of the fire.

Cottonwood Island is located upstream of Longview, Wash., and helps define the mouth of the Cowlitz River.
