Brother drowns trying to save sibling at Wildwood Falls

Witnesses say boys were walking near top of falls when younger one slipped

DORENA, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A boy drowned Tuesday afternoon after he tried to save his younger brother who slipped near the top of Wildwood Falls in Dorena, Ore.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office said the boy was walking near the falls with his younger brother when the younger boy slipped and began sliding down the rocks into the water.

According to witnesses, the older brother went into the water in an effort to save his younger brother, and they both ended up going down a narrow chute of water.

The younger brother emerged from the water, but the older one never resurfaced.

Lane County Search and Rescue Divers searched the area and recovered the body of the older brother.

The identity of the boy was withheld, pending family notification.

The Lane County Medical Examiner will investigate the cause and manner of death.

Wildwood Falls is located on the Row River near Cottage Grove, Ore. The top of the rock wall stands approximately 25 to 30 feet above the base of the falls.
