PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Gov. John Kitzhaber ordered all flags at public institutions around the state be flown at half-staff on Tuesday to honor both Paul Lee and Emilio Hoffman.

Lee, 19, was shot to death in a random attack at Seattle Pacific University on June 5. He graduated from Portland’s Westview High School in 2013.

Hoffman was the 14-year-old Reynolds High School freshman who was killed in a school shooting last week.

In a statement, the governor said, “In one week we lost two young Oregonians to shootings at Reynolds High School and Seattle Pacific University. We’ve learned this week that Emilio Hoffman and Paul Lee both liked to make people smile, had kind hearts and were embarking on opportunities at new schools. I am devastated to know their potential and dreams were cut short by senseless acts of violence. To the family and friends of Emilio and Paul, their school communities, and emergency responders, we stand with you.”
