PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A 39-year-old man hit his step-father in the head with a machete and then held police in a standoff for hours beginning late Saturday, police said.
The incident began as a domestic dispute in the 10200 block of N. Midway Avenue around 8:30 p.m.
Bradley Wyatt allegedly hit his step-father with the machete, though it’s unclear what led up to the attack. A woman was also reportedly in the house at the time, but she managed to get out without being hurt.
Sgt. Pete Simpson said the situation ended early Sunday morning after ”long negotiations by the Crisis Negotiation Team.”
The step-father’s injuries are serious, but he is expected to recover.
Wyatt will be arraigned Monday on first-degree assault, second-degree assault, being a felon in possession of a firearm, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of methadone and menacing.
EDITOR’S NOTE: The victim was previously identified by police officials as Bradley Wyatt’s father-in-law. Authorities modified that on Monday and said the injured man was Wyatt’s step-father.
