Man killed by truck while walking on I-5

ROSEBURG, Ore. (KOIN 6) — One man is dead following a fatal pedestrian-involved traffic crash on Interstate 5 in Roseburg, Ore.

At roughly 2 p.m., a 50-year-old Roseburg man, Charles P. Earwood, was walking in the northbound lane of I-5 near milepost 126 when he was struck by a truck in the right northbound lane. Earwood died at the scene.

Reports are the man stepped in front of the truck and was hit. Thus far, the investigation reveals the man had a history of mental illness and his action to step in front of the truck may have been intentional. The Oregon State Police will continue their investigation following an autopsy from the Douglas County Medical Examiner.
