WEST LINN, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Hundreds came out Saturday afternoon to remember the West Linn teen who died from injuries sustained in a car crash last weekend.

Monday, 17-year-old Maddi Higgins passed away, along with her boyfriend 18-year-old Hayden Soyk. Higgins is remembered as a star athlete, a great softball player and a compassionate friend.

“It’s hard to believe there could be a purpose, and a bigger meaning. But because of Maddi, I want to live a life of faith and compassion around those around me,” said a speaker at the service.

“I want to be selfless and not judgmental, I want to be more like Maddi.”

Maddi is survived by her parents and three sisters. In lieu of flowers, people are asked to either contribute to a scholarship fund for West Linn athletes, or to a private account for the family to help pay for expenses.

Donations to both funds can be made at any Chase bank.
