SALEM, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A brief standoff between Salem police and a wanted felon came to a peaceful conclusion on Thursday.

The situation began around 2:37 p.m. when Salem Police Department officers went to an apartment in the 2300 block of Coral Avenue NE to find 33-year-old Jerad Joseph Smith, who had numerous warrants out for his arrest, according to Salem Police Lt. Steve Birr.

When police arrive, a woman who was inside the apartment came out and confirmed that Smith was still inside, Steve said.

SWAT was called out to the apartment, but Smith surrendered to police without further incident, authorities said. No one was injured.

Smith was transported to Marion County Jail on a felony warrant for burglary in the first degree.
