PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Portland commissioners unanimously voted on Wednesday to approve Google Fiber’s franchise agreement with the city.

The vote is another step forward in trying to secure the ultra-fast internet service.

Google Fiber: What it really means for you

It won’t be known whether Google Fiber will come to the Rose City until the end of the year.

However, Wednesday’s vote helps in laying the ground work to make it more enticing for Google Fiber to come here.

Google Fiber reached a tentative agreement with the city to introduce the 1-gigabit ultra-high speed service on April 16.
