PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Emma Waibel from West Linn High School was chosen the Queen of Rosaria for the 2014 Rose Festival.

She becomes the 100th queen in the festival’s history and will represent both Portland and the Rose Festival for a year. But she’s the first queen from outside the city limits of Portland.

The Queen was chosen after judges look at leadership, scholastic achievement, school activities, civic involvement, volunteer projects, the ability to communicate and an overall impression.

Waibel was a cheerleader her freshman and sophomore years at West Linn. She is a National Honor Society member and vice president of the student body. She’s also served with Habitat for Humanity.

Each of the young women on the court receives a $3,500 scholarship from the Randall Group that is good at a college, university or trade program, a complete wardrobe and mentorship from the senior management team at Pacific Power.
