PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Sixteen years ago today, Lachelle Banks was staying at a friend’s house when someone shot her.
The case remains unsolved, and 16 years later, detectives with the Portland Police Bureau Cold Homicide Unit are now asking for the public’s help in solving the case.
Detectives said Banks was found shot to death inside her friend’s living room just before midnight in the 5300 block of Northeast Irving Street.
Banks’ friend heard the shooting and ran to a neighbor’s house to call 911, police said.
Police said Banks was reported to have been an exotic dancer, and may have been using drugs.
Detectives said Banks spent time in Alaska.
After exploring numerous leads, detectives now believe the motive for the murder may be related to money owned by Banks, or it could have been a case of mistaken identity.
If you have information regarding the murder, you’re urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 503-823-HELP (4357).
