PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — The cleanup is underway along the Historic Columbia River Highway after a landslide closed the road.

About 1000 cubic yards of rock and debris fell onto the road just before noon Thursday.

Landslide-Historic-Columbia-River-HighwayRock scalers are checking the area above the rock slide between Woodard Road and the Stark Street Bridge for any loose rocks. If necessary, they will remove any debris that could harm the crews on the road.

Once it’s safe, the crews will haul the rock and check the road for damage.

That area of road remains closed through Friday, at least, and ODOT officials do not yet have an estimated time when it may re-open.
