Security zone set up for Fleet Week

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — With naval ships back in Portland for Fleet Week. a security zone on the Willamette River is in place through next Monday.

Ships from the US Navy, the Canadian Navy and the Coast Guard are tied up at the seawall between the Steel and Morrison bridges.

Boaters who need to pass through the controlled access area must contact the Coast Guard security escort vessel on VHF-FM channel 16, officials with the Rose Festival said.

Anyone who wants to go through the Security Zone cannot have any firearms, must wait in staging areas for patrol escorts, and must operate at the minimum speed in single file.

Fleet Week continues until noon Monday.
