SHERWOOD, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Police in Sherwood took on the role of sheep herders after six sheep escaped from the back of a trailer Monday morning.

According to Sherwood police Capt. Ty Hanlon, the sheep were first spotted near a Safeway store close to Roy Rogers Road and then took off.

First, the small herd ran to an ice arena, back to Safeway, across a highway and through a shopping center. Hanlon said eventually the six sheep split up with four going into a neighborhood and the other two headed toward another grocery store.

Officers managed to round all six up within about a half hour and loaded them back into the trailer.

Hanlon said all the sheep survived unhurt despite a few some close calls when they crossed streets and a busy highway.

The Sherwood Police Department also appeared to poke a little fun at the incident Monday, tweeting “Sheep escaped from trailer. We gave chase throughout the city. All safe and accounted for.”
