PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — One man died early Sunday morning after the motorcycle he was driving was involved in a head-on crash in SE Portland.

Portland police said they responded to SE 29th Avenue and SE Powell Boulevard at 2 a.m. and found a motorcycle rider that had been thrown from his bike and was deceased in the street.

Officers said preliminary information indicated the motorcycle rider was traveling westbound on SE Powell Boulevard at a very high rate of speed, crossed over into the eastbound lanes of traffic and crashed head-on into a vehicle being driven eastbound.

The rider was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene. Police said the driver of the vehicle was not injured in the crash and was cooperating with the investigation.

Authorities added the driver of the vehicle did not appear to be impaired.

The Traffic Division’s Major Crash Team responded to the scene and is conducting a crash investigation.

SE Powell Boulevard was closed in both directions for a few hours following the crash.
