Police said the chase started around 6 a.m. in North Portland near North Lombard. Speeds at one point reached 90 mile per hour, officers confirmed.

The driver of the vehicle ended up on Southwest Broadway Drive behind Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) when he stopped, went into reverse and rammed an officer’s patrol car, police said. Police spokesperson Sgt. Greg Stewart said the impact was at low speed and damaged the patrol car’s bumper.

The driver fled, but was found by a K-9 officer in a wooded area.

Derek Wayne Coulson, 27, now faces charges of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, felony and misdemeanor elude and hit and run. He was also wanted for eluding police a few days ago, officials said.

The passenger in the car, 31-year-old Kayla Snow, was charged with interfering with a peace officer and unlawful entry to a motor vehicle.

No one was seriously hurt. Coulson and Snow are being held in the Multnomah County Jail.
