LONGVIEW, Wash. (KOIN 6) — A fire at an auto sales and repair shop in Longview was fueled by a torch underneath a car that was on an overhead lift.

Around 8:15 a.m. firefighters were called to 726 3rd Avenue, a building that houses both Main Street Auto Sales and Parr’s Cars and RV.

The building was filled with smoke and fire was in the ceiling by the time responders arrived. Smoke made it difficult for firefighters to see, and they crawled through an office space until they found the fire in an auto repair garage.

Officials said an oxy/acetylene torch was below a car on an overhead lift and was fueling the fire. Investigators determined that’s where and how the fire started

It took about 45 minutes to bring the fire under control, officials said. No one was hurt, and five RVs parked nearby were moved out of harm’s way.

Both businesses suffered heavy damage. No estimate of the damage is available at this time.
