HOOD RIVER, Ore. (KOIN 6) — Months after it was damaged by a boulder and then vandalized, the historic Benson Bridge at Multnomah Falls may open this weekend.
Jen Kevil, the Recreation and Public Affairs officer with the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area, told KOIN 6 News “it all depends on when the contractor finishes on the site.”
The bridge may open on Saturday, Kevil said.
Built in 1915, the Benson Bridge was damaged in January when a large rock fell and put a hole in the bridge.
Signs informing the public about the closure installed at both the Multnomah Falls and the Wahkeena Trailhead were repeatedly been removed and damaged.
Though the bridge may open this weekend, another closure will be required in fall to complete needed repairs and maintenance.
Other bridges are undergoing maintenance or are affected by city-wide events this weekend. Here is a complete list of closures and detours.
