Milwaukie man lost on Angel’s Rest found

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A a 25-year-old man from Milwaukie who got lost with his dog around Angel’s Rest Monday afternoon has been found.

A Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team said they made contact with Simon Kaine around 6:15 p.m. and reached him at approximately 6:30 p.m. Other than being extremely thirsty, rescuers said Kaine and his dog were OK.

Rescuers said Kaine was found in a very steep area. Another Search and Rescue team arrived at Kaine’s location shortly after and both teams are working to safely escort Kaine and his dog back down.

Kaine called 911 around 2 p.m. and said he was lost, officials said.

Angel’s Rest is an exposed bluff on the western end of the Columbia River Gorge.

He said he was in a ravine and had his dog with him, but did not have any emergency supplies and was out of water.

Kaine parked his car at the overflow lot of Angel’s Rest and took an unmarked trail not far from where he parked, authorities said in a release.

Rescuers were able to get a ping on his cell phone and determined he is significantly off the trail. Search and rescue units are being deployed.
