BOSTON, Mass. (KOIN 6) — One of Portland’s most renowned musicians was honored Saturday night for a lifetime of musical achievement.

Grammy-award winning composer and trumpeter Thara Memory received an honorary doctorate from the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Three years ago, Memory’s custom-made trumpet was stolen — and he credits KOIN 6 for helping him get it back.

Memory mentored fellow Grammy winner Esperanza Spalding. Students from the youth jazz orchestra he curates will perform at this year’s blues festival in July.
