PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The Portland Police Bureau dog killed in the line of duty was honored Wednesday by the doctors who treated him.

The Portland VCA Animal Hospital honored Mick with a placque, and presented his partner, officer Jeff Dorn, with the dog’s ashes.

Dorn was shot, but survived a shootout with a burglary suspect in April.

Veterinarians at VCA’s facility treat all of the Portland Police Bureau’s K-9 officers.

“We wouldn’t be able to keep these dogs up and running without them. for them to put this on and recognize Mick and what he did is wonderful,” said PPB Sgt. Jason Pearce.

Dorn did not attend the vigil.

A public memorial for Mick will be held May 12 at Hillsboro stadium.
