PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — MAX Green and Yellow lines in downtown Portland are back in service after an underground fire disrupted service briefly on Thursday, TriMet said.

Rich Chapman with Portland Fire & Rescue said firefighters responded to an underground fire at SW 5th Avenue and SW Main Street.

According to Chapman, leaves and branches stuck in a Portland General Electric electrical vault ventilation tube caught on fire.

Investigators suspect, but have not yet proven, that a cigarette butt likely lit the leaves and branches on fire.

Chapman said the fire is now out.

TriMet said MAX service was restored around 2:45 p.m.
