Comedian John Oliver’s The Daily Show spin-off debuted on HBO Sunday, and Oregon’s health care was in the satirical newsman’s crosshairs.
Oliver spent nearly three minutes of his Last Week Tonight inaugural half-hour lambasting the glitch-riddled Cover Oregon website. Nearly $300 million in federal grant money was put into Coveroregon.com, a website still unable to service needy Oregon residents.
Friday, Oregon became the first state in the nation to ditch a state-run exchange for the federal system.
Cover Oregon’s board quickly and unanimously voted to adopt healthcare.gov despite fully knowing how Oregonians might be affected.
The British comic predictably (and vulgarly) laid into the program Sunday night. The clip below is the clip in its entirety, and does contain coarse language:
Monday, the vendor used to build Coveroregon.com came under fire for reportedly falling far behind on another state project.
