PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) – Dozens gathered for a ceremonial groundbreaking of Lloyd District Commons Monday for “Workers Memorial Day.”

Officials with the corporation that’s investing in the residential development project said Monday they remember those who have suffered and died on the job and to renew efforts for safe workplaces.

The $43.2 million multifamily project in the 300 block of Multnomah Street in Portland is expected to created hundreds of jobs.

The property will also feature roughly 3,500 square feet of street-level retail space. Construction is expected to be completed by July 2015.
