Ramsay, who coached the Portland Trail Blazers from 1976 to 1986 and was the only coach to bring an NBA championship to Portland, was 89.

Ramsay stepped away from radio broadcasting with ESPN last year for medical reasons. Ramsay has reportedly battled cancer for more than a decade and a half.

The Blazers retired the No. 77 in honor of the Hall of Fame coach and the year the franchise won its lone championship.

The team’s Twitter account announced Ramsay’s passing early Monday morning.

ESPN is reporting Ramsay’s funeral will be held Thursday.
