Sheriff’s deputy and cadet suffer minor injuries in I5 crash

A Marion County Sheriff's Office SUV came to rest in the southbound lanes of I5 Sunday morning after crossing over from the northbound lanes and rolling.

SALEM, Ore. (KOIN 6) – A Marion County Sheriff’s Deputy and a cadet both went to the hospital after their marked SUV crashed on I-5 Sunday morning.

Neither was seriously injured. The deputy was trying to assist officers apprehend a felony assault suspect in a field near the freeway north of Salem.

Oregon State Police troopers say the northbound SUV lost control on the wet pavement and crossed through the grassy median before hitting a concrete wall and stopping on the southbound shoulder of the freeway.

There was standing water on the roadway at the time of the 8:40 a.m. crash. Two southbound lanes were blocked for the investigation.

The names of the deputy and cadet will be released Monday.
