Public memorial to be held for fallen K-9 Mick

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN 6) — A public memorial has been scheduled for next month to honor the service of Portland Police Bureau’s canine Mick who was killed earlier this month in a shootout that also injured his handler.

K-9 Mick ‘made the ultimate sacrifice’

In a partnership with the Hillsboro Police Department, Portland police said the memorial celebration will be held at Hillsboro Stadium located at 4450 NW 229th Avenue in Hillsboro along Highway 26 at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 12.

Police K-9 teams are also welcome to attend the memorial. Any teams interested and planning to attend are asked to contact K-9 Unit Officer Shawn Gore via email at shawn.gore@portlandoregon.gov.

Portland police also said anyone wishing to make a tax-deductible donation to the K-9 Unit can send it directly to the Portland Police Bureau K-9 Unit at the following address:

Portland’s federal tax identification number is 93-6002236. An official notice is available on the auditor’s website if a donor wishes to print it for their records.

Additional information regarding the public memorial is expected to be released later this week.
