PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Taxes done? Paid your Portland Arts Tax yet?

The $35 arts tax is due April 15.

Revenue Bureau Director Thomas Lannom said in a statement that it will only take about three minutes to pay it online.

Voters approved the tax in November 2012 and paid it for the first time one year ago after a series of court challenges ruled it was constitutional.

Where does the money go?

According to the City of Portland, in 2013 the tax was projected to draw roughly $11 million in revenue to fund additional art and music teachers in elementary schools, but only took in $8 million.

All residents of Portland who make more than $1,000 per year are required to pay the Arts Tax, although there are some exemptions.

If you didn’t pay the tax last year, there is a $35 penalty on top of the tax.
